Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Sirsa is situated at a distance of about 5 Kms. from main bus stand and about 4 Kms. from the Railway Station of the City in the vicinity of Civil Hospital. This institute started functioning during the session 1985-86 with an annual intake of 30 students. Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Sirsa came into being in the year 1985 under the Technical Education Deptt., Haryana with the objective of providing technical education to women . It was functioning as a guest institute in Govt. Polytechnic , Sirsa . Initially , two diploma courses were started namely :

having intake of 15 students each. The institute was shifted in its own campus in March '92 and the intake was increased to 45 in Electronics & TV Engg. and 30 in Secretarial Practice & Stenography from the session 1992-93 with the starting of world-bank project. Two new diploma courses namely :

were introduced from the session 1993-94 with intake of 30 students each. The existing diplomas were covered under the modernization scheme of the world bank project . A new diploma course i.e. Diploma in Information Technology has been introduced from the session 1999-2000 and all the diploma courses have been rationalized with a uniform intake of 40 students each . The name of SP & S has been renamed Modern Office Practice from the session 2001-2002. All the courses are of three years duration and on semester pattern . The courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education , Haryana.

The institution is run under the Principal of Er. Yashpal Singh (M.E. Computer Technology and Application From Delhi college of Engg.)

All these courses are duly recognized by All India Council of Technical Education, New Delhi and the State Government.

The affairs of the institute are managed by the State Government under Technical Education Department. The examination are conducted by the State Board of Technical Education, Haryana, Chandigarh on Semester basis.
